SPEAKING

KEYNOTES | LEADERSHIP SESSIONS | GUEST LECTURES

Most talks about the future of work come from consultants and academics looking in. Mine come from inside.

I've done the job for fifteen years, spent a doctorate studying it, and I still go to the Monday stand-up.

GUEST LECTURE

better work or better cover?

Every organisation now says it’s adopting AI. Plenty of what’s happening is people using it to look right faster: quicker decks, tidier summaries, the same thinking underneath. This talk separates adoption that changes decisions from adoption that changes the paperwork. Then it shows how most companies’ incentives produce the second kind.

Good for: L&D and HR conferences, AI strategy events, executive team halfway through a rollout.

Drawn from: my Reworked editorial of the same name, my work on AI adoption inside a Fortune 500, and my seat on the UCCS Strategic AI Program board.

THE ROOM LEAVES WITH

  • One test: does it change a decision, or only the document?
  • Why your performance system decides your adoption
  • What to stop counting as progress

the office was never about work

Return-to-office mandates are sold as a productivity question. They're a visibility question. For a century, the office let managers see people, and seeing stood in for measuring. Remote work took the sightline away. Most organisations never built anything to replace it, and hybrid has mostly postponed the argument.

Good for: HR and people leaders, leadership offsites, future-of-work conferences.

Drawn from: Beyond the Office (Routledge 2027) and doctoral fieldwork inside large corporates.

THE ROOM LEAVES WITH

  • A quick test: is your policy about output or attendance?
  • What trust looks like when it has to be designed
  • Why close watching gets more performance and less work
